Power steering fun

Postby ponypowered91 » November 12th, 2012, 12:17 pm

So my car has been fine. For a while. It sat in a parking lot all weekend while I was in Ft. Riley for drill. Drove it home yesterday. Seemed fine. Now when I came out this morning I started it up to warm it up as it was covered in frost. Go to walk back to the house.... Bam. Huge puddle of ATF on the ground under the front bumper. So I pop the hood. I haven't messed with these cars and for some reason I or brake fluid stick in my head. So I rode the bike in 27* weather. Then thinking about it, realized it was my power steering that was empty and leaking. So I drove to my second class and halfway there I had almost no brakes. ?! My brake reservoir is almost full. So why would I not have brakes if my PS is leaking? Maybe I should just stick to pre-86 5.0s

Hydraboost, the power steering pump provides the power assist to the brakes.

Bingo. No vacuum brake booster on new edges.

well after changing the one on the 92 I'll take that as a relief.....

found the power steering leak. it's on a hose (with two worm clamps by the way) on the low pressure side.
